Education

We offer lectures primarily for first- and second-year students on the structure and function of the human body and the mechanisms of disease and recovery. Courses include Morphology & Physiology A/B, Biochemistry, and Nutrition. We also contribute to courses such as Adult Disease Studies, Geriatric Disease Studies, and Health Assessment, as well as university-wide general education courses including Introduction to University Studies and Information Literacy.

Research

  • Prof. Miake specializes in physiology and molecular biology, with a focus on how abnormalities in iron metabolism and other trace elements contribute to age-related conditions such as sarcopenia and frailty through mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular senescence. His research integrates physiological, biochemical, and molecular biological approaches, with the goal of translating basic science findings into evidence-based nursing and medical practice.
  • Assoc. Prof. Kato is a board-certified pediatrician, licensed psychologist, and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Her clinical and research activities encompass breastfeeding support, infant neurodevelopment, and comprehensive developmental care. Her ongoing research interests include breast milk volume and composition (including caffeine concentration), oxytocin-mediated mother-infant interaction, brain function development in preterm infants, and sensory processing characteristics. She aims to advance understanding of continuous developmental trajectories from the fetal period through school age and to promote individualized developmental support and effective breastfeeding practices.
